I truly believe that connecting with residents is one of the things that makes our community special. When we are engaged and involved together on where we are going, it makes for a stronger end result. We have seen this with our updated Comprehensive Plan and are looking to do the same with our Strategic Plan that is being updated.
One of the ways we connect with citizens is through our Town Hall meetings where we share information and engage on issues and topics in our community. While COVID has presented challenges these last several months, I hope you will join us at our upcoming Town Hall which will take place this Wednesday, October 21st at 6pm. This Town Hall will be held virtually, not only to keep Meridian healthy, but also to allow all our active and busy residents a chance to participate from the comfort of your own home or office.
On the agenda for Wednesday, we will kick things off by recognizing a few Meridian Stars. These are individuals, neighbors, and businesses that go above and beyond to give back to the community. They are constantly working to make Meridian the best place to live, and while they definitely don’t do it for the notoriety – I hope you’ll join us in saying thank you as the City Council and I recognize this years’ recipients.
Next, we will dive into the results from this year’s City Survey. The survey results indicate which areas the city and our partners excel in, and also identifies opportunities for improvement. The City survey is conducted every three years, and we use it to gain feedback from the community and identify priorities of you, our residents. This provides great insight as we lead in to updating our Strategic Plan which is the third item on our agenda.
The priorities of the City are laid out in our draft Strategic Plan. Once adopted, this will be a guiding plan for our goals and operations over a five-year period. We are excited to share the plan in its current state with attendees and take your feedback before reaching out to the rest of the community in the following weeks. Once adopted later this year, the Strategic Plan gives us the framework for 2021-2026 and what steps we plan to take to achieve our vision of being the West’s premier city in which to live, work, and raise a family.
Those joining the Zoom meeting will have the opportunity to ask questions on these exciting topics. If you aren’t able to attend, a recording will be available online. Please join myself, City Directors, and our City Council Members this Wednesday. I look forward to seeing you there!
